Program: Introduction to Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF)

September’s NoVa CSI program will cover spray polyurethane foam and its construction applications, including:

  • Basic chemistry, delivery and types for roofing, insulation and air sealing
  • Safety requirements during and immediately after installation
  • Thermal, air sealing, moisture control and structural benefits
  • Typical construction applications
  • Model building code compliance

Speakers

Kurt Riesenberg, Executive Director of SPFA and Executive Committee member of the High Performance Building Congressional Caucus Coalition. He will present an overview of SPFA and the SPF industry.

Richard S. Duncan, Technical Director, Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance.  Rick will provide an introduction to SPF insulation. He has worked in senior positions with Honeywell Spray Foam Insulation Group, CertainTeed Insulation, and Saint-Gobain Insulation’s New Materials and Applications Program. Rick was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Bucknell University. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Penn State, MSME from Bucknell University, and a BSME from the University of Maryland.  Rick is a Registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Utah, and is a certified BPI Building Analyst.

Robert J. Duke, Owner, Carolina Comfort Foam.  Bob will lead a discussion on applications and real-world field information about enhancing or creating energy efficiencies.
